Overview

Volunteers Needed!

Your Community Needs You – Volunteer to Make a Difference!

The Middle River Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, Inc. (MRVFR) is actively seeking volunteers of all backgrounds for Firefighter, EMT, Paramedic, Rescue Technician, Rescue Diver and FireCorps Administrative roles.

Every day, in every community, emergency responders answer the call of our families, friends and neighbors who are in need of assistance. From car accidents to heart attacks, from house fires to technical rescues, emergency responders are there to protect lives and property.

Emergency responders are a special type of people, with many different reasons for answering the call of duty. Some like the challenges and the adrenaline rush, while others like to sharpen their emergency skills and techniques. Every one of them answers the call so that they can help someone in need.

Today’s emergency responders do far more than put out fires or bandage wounds. Emergency responders are the first line of defense in natural and man-made disasters. They respond to vehicle accidents, hazardous materials incidents, specialized rescue situations and a vast array of emergency medical complaints.

In response to the growing need for new volunteer fire and emergency medical service providers, the Middle River Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, Inc. has initiated a recruitment campaign for interested citizens to learn how to “answer the call” and serve their community.

Becoming a volunteer emergency responder can be the most rewarding experience of your life, and allows you to reach out to someone in need. Together with the Middle River Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, Inc. you can ensure that there is always someone to “answer the call”.

REQUIREMENTS

If you are at least 16 years old and willing to serve your fellow citizens as a firefighter, emergency medical provider, rescue diver or in an administrative capacity, the Middle River Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, Inc. is looking for you. From college students to life-long Middle River and Baltimore County residents and retirees, if you’ve got the time to dedicate to your community we’d love to have you.

The initial application process includes a background check and typically takes less than a week. During the wait, new members are encouraged to participate in other department activities. Approval for membership is granted within a few weeks at which time members are allowed to begin certain training. New operational members are required to complete training provided by the Middle River Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, Inc., Baltimore County Fire Department Fire-Rescue Academy and/or the University of Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute.  Training includes Emergency Medical Technician, Firefighter I/II, Rescue Technician, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens and Hazardous Materials – Operations Level to name a few.

Those applying for a riding position will be required to pass a respiratory medical screening. Individuals applying for Firefighter will be required to pass and additional medical health screening prior to being authorized to participate in initial training.

There are many opportunities for advancement and responsibility on both the operational and FireCorps (administrative) side of the department.
